This story began when the 12-years-old smart me (Mathilde) told my parents: If they wanted to create a company, they had to do it right now––otherwise, they were never going to do it.

At that moment I didn’t think that they would take my advice, but I am really glad they did!

     BERGUE was founded in 2007 and we came a long way since then. In the beginning, the whole family was helping,

but the one who mainly did all of the work was my Mom: Anne Bergue. She is the founder and one of the creative brains behind BERGUE. Starting in our apartment- kitchen in Lisbon it was a time full of magic, experimentation, questions, and chaos but most importantly success. And it paid off! A year after my Mom started the Business we moved out of our kitchen and into Lx Factory (Lisbon). Lx Factory provided us with the necessary tools and space to create our Workshop.

     During this time, we were mainly selling outside of Portugal for shops like Harrods and museums such as the Museum of Chicago. Finally, in 2014 we had the opportunity to open our own store on the main floor of Lx Factory right under the ‘25th of April’ bridge––and we thought: “Why not?”

     I, myself was part of the process of BERGUE from the beginning and I remember so well being proud of my Mom when I was just a little girl on how she is ‘doing her thing’ and going for what she believed in. In 2018 I decided to enter on a full-time job basis and brought in some new ideas as well as support my Mom with the ongoing Business. Our Team keeps growing and we embrace everyone who was and is part of BERGUE and wants to help us to become better.

     We are really proud of how far BERGUE has come: Starting off in the kitchen in our apartment in Lisbon––to our Store with Mezzanine providing space for the Workshop and our Jewelry Designers––to open a new store in the city center of Lisbon. We hope to see you soon!
